Helly Hansen are synonymous with the sea but they have equally as much experience in the mountains and have been kitting out professionals in their native Scandinavia for years.  A quick glance at our review resume will testify to the range and depth Helly Hansen produce for outdoor and mountain activities.  All their collective expertise, thankfully, trickles down their everyday items too, such as the Dublin Backpack on review here.

Whilst you’re unlikely to use it for hikking, it’s a great no-frills everyday pack…

Made from highly durable nylon fabric it’s even robust enough to send the kids off to school with plenty of room, thanks to the two internal compartments, for all their kit AND a packed lunch!  For a basic pack there’s plenty of quality touches you’d expect from Helly Hansen

In Detail

It fair to say we love Helly Hansen and wait with baited breath everytime a new item drops onto our desk; childlike excitment wouldn’t be an exaggerated description!  Now you might argue it’s a little hard to get excited about a basic rucksack and to be fair, you’d be right.  That said, the Dublin is a great bit of kit for relatively little money.

For just a rrp of £35 you’re getting something that’s very well made, functional and robust.  Last time I popped into the supermarket to buy food basics such as milk, bread etc. I didn’t have a great deal of change from £25.  For just a tenner extra, you could be the proud owner of a 33L Dublin backpack, which should last longer than the flimsy carrier you get with your shopping!

So what are you getting for your money?

I’m getting boring now, but you get the picture!  Not bad for £35!  And in addition to this you also get a ‘handed’ top mounted handle and compression straps to keep everything from sloshing about.

The 33Litre Dublin Backpack isn’t going to reignite your desire to trek off into the wildness but it will more than suffice as a no-frills everyday packhorse

Whilst it’s lacking in features such as security pockets it does make up for this in terms of build quality.  I’d even venture to suggest this could be a great pack for the kids, either for school and indeed as their own daypack if you’re out walking.

Things we do like are the deep mesh side pockets which so often barely secure more than tiny bottle of water, the compression bungy on the rear for extra (or damp) clothing and the great big chunky zippers!

For a relatively small amount of cash, the Dublin Backpack is certain worth a butchers.
