What’s great about this jacket is it superb versatility, that was key point noted during testing.
In 1984 Helly Hansen developed their award winning Hellytech fabric, which 2 years later became the corner stone to there 3 layering system, so it’s certainly no surprise it continues to be improved and used in the majority the jacket range and to great effect… that’s one of things we love about Helly Hansen, they’re constantly improving and evolving.
I have mentioned previously that there are so many manufacturers out there producing a myriad of shell designs utilising different technologies, it becomes difficult for individual brands to rise above the fog. Helly Hansen do this time and time again by investing time into producing clothing and equipment which excels rather than compromises. The Rigging jacket, like so many of their range, exudes quality when you examine it closely to the point of almost being over engineered.
Helly Hansen design their clothing and equipment with the professional in mind but, and here’s the clever bit, but ensure it’s well within the reach of us the consumer. So, here’s a little more about this wondrous item of outdoor clothing.
Whilst fit is badged as being “regular”, it doesn’t feel boxy in the slightest and it comfortable and flattering:
The front of the jacket keeps everything together via the the familiar quality of a YKK® zipper:
It’s unlikely you’ll be trekking up mountains in this coat, however it would be more than at home in lowlands for leisurely walking. The two-way set-up means it’s possible to provide additional ventilation should you start to get a little warm, or perhaps more likely hopping into your car. Simply zip up from the bottom to prevent pinching when seated.
The Rigging Jacket boasts an impressive pocket configuration, again with YKK® zippers, including Napolen pockets:
Which double up to provide more venting options should you begin to feel the heat:
As well as YKK® zipped generous waist pockets:
Both of these configurations benefit from zip kennels, which is a nod towards it credentials of withstanding snow and ice!
The bottom hem has elastic adjustment for added versatile, with easy single handed operation:
And in addition to this, there is also an adjustable waist to really batten down the hatches during the worst of what Mother Nature has to throw at you:
The main zip also benefits from a storm guard, yet again no stone left unturned by Helly Hansen!
The cuffs are equally well kitted out and are able to cope with lightweight or heavy duty gloves, depending upon the weather. Being velcro they’re easy to use and don’t slip whilst on the move:
You’ll also note the elasticated cuffs of the inner jacket poking through, which are secured in place to prevent slipping when taking the jacket off and on:
It’s worth mentioning Rigging jacket utilises HELLY TECH® PROFESSIONAL 2-ply fabric. This is to aid performance and adds to the overall versatility of the Verglas jacket.
At the rear if the jacket is the ubiquitous fishtail we’ve all come to associated with a true Parka jacket.
Not only does this help to protect the backs or your legs, being adjustable it also means you can further customise the jacket depending upon the weather or just your mood!
Whilst you’re not going to wear a helmet beneath the hood, it is adjustable to minimise flapping and to keep your face protected at all times.
When the jacket is zipped all the way up, there’s even fleece lined mouth guard to prevent the zip from rubbing. A nice touch for urban warrior jacket!
The interior of the jacket reflects the quality and lineage:
You can also see how the two jacket sandwich together so nicely:
What’s great about the Rigging Jacket is that unlike a great many 3in1 designs, he inner jacket isn’t a mere after thought:
It’s a high quality insulated jacket with all the design cues and quality you’d expect from a single use offering:
Benefiting from Primaloft® Insulation:
- HELLY TECH® PROTECTION
- YKK® quality zippers
- Hanger loop
- Contrast lining
- Adjustable waist

The Helly Hansen CIS Rigging Coat for Women
Versatile and robust urban jacket, capable of withstanding extreme conditions.
Or even just a trip into town!
Out testers absolutely loved this jacket!
They loved the style, the cut and overall the performance and versatility. If your work takes you in and out of the elements, all your round, this really is a winner. It’s brimming with Helly Hansen technology and even has green credentials to boot!
Rather than excelling in just one area, Helly Hansen appear to adopt the approach of excelling in all. The Rigging jacket is the sort of protection you can customise year round without the need topack your car with those “just in case” items.
The quality, design and attention to detail is evident the minute you pick it. Suffice to say, it’s not been returned yet, and lets face it. We’re not surprised.
